Question about stock 630

The parts for my new Intel rig are arriving today and I want to know how hard I can push my 630 P4 on stock hsf? I considered getting a 640 but decided to get an extra gig of ram with the money I saved instead. So here are my parts:

Intel P4 630 3.0 ghz
MSI 945g Neo-F Socket T
2gb (2x512) Corsair Value RAM DDR2 667 mhz pc5300
Antec Neopower 480w PSU
Coolermaster Wavemaster TAC-01 case
eVGA 6600gt PCI-e 128mb
200gb Samsung hdd w/ SATA2 and NCQ
Creative Sound Blaster Live 7.1 soundcard
NEC 3540a DVD burner

I'm new to building my own rig and obviously new to OC'ing so I'm just hoping to get my system up and running. However, I would appreciate the extra processing power because I do a lot of multi-tasking.
 
i for one own a 640, i am pretty sure you can push your cpu to 3.6ghz with stock hsf no problem, with a after market cooler you can probably make it run at 3.8 or 4.0, i got my 640 running at 3.8ghz for a while then i decided to drop the speed.
 
I'd be happy with 3.4 or 3.5 ghz but 4.0 sounds awesome. I hope I can get it stable at 3.4 or so.
 
3.4 is easy, I'm limited because of my motherboard, I know I could get more with a different board. You will be happy with the 630.
 
I have personally owned and installed MANY 630 chips on both mine and friends' computers and I never found one 630 that wouldnt do at least 4GHz or better on air cooling.
 
lol, whoops, i meant 4x512. Anyways, I got it up to 3.2ghz from 3.0 just by raising the fsb by 14. The multiplier is locked on 15 and I don't know how to change it. I would use a fsb:ram ration but I don't know where to set that as well. My board is listed above along with other hardware. If anyone knows how to access and change the multiplier on this board then please tell me. I can't raise the fsb anymore or else it will not boot and I have to reset the bios manually. Also, how does tweaking the ram work? and how does that help one oc? I want to get up to about 3.4 or 3.5ghz. Thanks.
 
I am not getting any responses in the oc forum since everyone seems to want to discuss amd chips only so I'll restate it here. How do I unlock the multiplier on my cpu? So far I've been only able to raise the fsb by 14 to get to 3.2ghz and it won't go any higher or else Windows will not boot up. Also the same questions above apply about the multiplier, voltage, etc etc. Please all you guys that have oc'd your 630s please help a noob out here.
 
Well first im sorry to say but you must be really new to intel. There processors have been locked since p3 i think. U cant unlock multi. If it wont go more that more 14 fsb. Then increase voltage and try...DUH....... just tell me what latencies your ram is running at and what voltage then i can help you with your ram. You dont need to put your ram on ratio.
 
correction that processor has 2 multipliers available, 14 and 15. You can run at 2800MHZ if you want. ;)
 
Here are screens of CPU-z with my current config. Sorry I never bothered to get into OCing until now. So the multiplier can't be unlocked, now I have to go to the ram, but I don't know what to do from here. How much should I raise the voltage? and what else should I do? My cpu temp right now is idle at 34c so I can push it a little more.







 
Well first tell me what ram you have..make??? Soz if u posted it earlier.. Now just oc normally byu increasing the fsb and when you are running over your rams rated speed increase voltage to it for morew stability. Increase voltage to cpu aswell if need be. Then if it still wont boot up....loosen your ram timings.
 
I have some cheap Corsair Value Ram.

2gb 4x512 DDR2 667 mhz (pc5300)

How much should I raise the voltage? Since I'm on a 3:5 fsb-ram ration (don't know how to change that) if I raise my fsb by 3 I raise my ram by 5 so how much voltage should I pump into the cpu and ram in relation to how much I raise the fsb? I could just do it and check for stability but I don't want to overdo it by raising the voltage too high.
 
Ok well depends on what speed your fsb is.. and that ram ration is a bit dodgy . All i would say is run it around 2.8-2.9v that would suffice for most overclocks. Just dont blow ure ram
