Question about SSD alignment

I just picked up a Crucial M4 256GB today.:)

I did a fresh install of Win 7. I verified that Trim was working and that the alignment is correct.

I usually after a fresh install, before I install a bunch of software do a clone to an external drive. So if I ever want to go back to ground zero it only takes about a half hour.

My question is with an SSD is cloning to an external USB drive gonna mess up the alignment when I restore back to the SSD.

Anybody that has any experience with this I would appreciate your insight. So I dont have to do this time consuming experiment myself:p

As long as you use a reasonably up to date cloning app, it will be ssd aware and do the proper alignment.
 
It would seem more logical to make the clone AFTER installing a bunch of software, installing windows is pretty quick.
 
Cloned my laptops harddrive to a SSD with acronis 2011 home edition, worked fine, aligned and everything. I had the SSD in an external enclosure and encountered no difficulties that weren't caused by my own lack of experience. Nothing fatal, anyway.

Aesma, not as fast as restoring off a clone with all my drivers ready to go. I also keep a running backup about once a month.
