Question about sound dampening!

Ok, I have been looking around for ways to quiet an AIR COOLED pc the best I can. I found these fans here.

High CFM and Low dBA, just what I wanted. I was wondering if it would be wise to invest in these or these ?

The price gap is big, but is there going to be a performance difference? Plus I was thinking about getting them for the power supplies. Money is not too big of an object, but I dont want to go ahead and buy the most expensive thing, if a cheaper thing will do the same job.

So any ideas? I have too many windows in the case to used the sound dampening material, so I thought this would be a good way to kill some excess noise.

Go cheaper, there will be no disconserable difference between the two, adding something between the fan and the case that will absorbation the vibration of the fan will help, especially aluminum cases which resonate much worse then steel cases.

those fans arent 21 DBA :p Do a search and see for your self that TT's specs are false

if you're interested in quiet computing, check out SPCR

They have a list of good fans and the actual dB measurements

I've found that using the dense foam 1/2" weather stripping around the edge of the fan between the fan and the case->basically kills vibration. Works good for me-then the only noise is from the fan motor and the air itself resonance is much less of any issue.

I did a little looking around that site, and I couldnt find the exact dBA of the THERMALTAKE A1926's. It seems to good to be true that you get that high of a CFM and that low of noise.

Does anyone know the true noise at that CFM???

Im gonna go with the cheap sound dampening. It should all work the same, as long as its something between the case and the fan.

I have no problem paying 3 bucks more per fan as long as the CFM is 70ish and the dBA is no more than 30. But, if thats not the case, ill keep my 42 CFM / 22 dBA fans.

Edit: Just read a bunch of new egg reviews, and people seemed to like the THERMALTAKE A1926. They said yeah it pushes a lot of air, and yes its quiet. But some people said it was not 21 dBA but instead maybe 30 dBA which I can live with to be honest because right now my case puts out into the 40s or so.

So I raise yet another question, because of what I saw on newegg. Someone said people must be complaining about the noise that the fan pulls through a grill. Well Does that make a big difference? If so would the standard circular grill not be a good choice? And would fan filters make more noise or not? or was that guy stupid and didnt know what he was saying?

Don't know about filters, but any type of grill adds more noise. Also, the closer the grill is to the fan, the louder the disturbance is. Try it out on a 80mm fan running at full speed with the standard circular grill.
What I ended up doing was taking some of those standard grills and using a dremel to cut off the actual round parts. My grills now (I try to have as few as possible) have only the cross pieces of the standard grill. It's really a two piece grill now, but the noise is reduced and it still keeps larger objects from hitting the blades. Not fingers though, but everyone should be smart enough not to go poking a fan ;)

nexus fans are a true 21 dBA

if you are going 120mm
i've been thinking of getting 120mm yate loon fans at Case-mod.com
they're slightly noisy/faster than nexus

Well i have a U2-UFO from mountain mods, and I looked at reviews, the older ones used to take something like 6x 120s and 3 80s or something like that... I dunno, but mine is a newer aged one, and it takes 9x 120s. 4 in the front, 2 on the top, and 3 in the back.

So, I want looks (blue led fans), cooling (high CFM), quietness (low dBA)

I got my 9 fans for 4.99 each. Not a bad deal for a mid grade fan, ive seen worse and better.
If anyone knows how the thermaltake ones handle, i might RMA my fans and just get those. The sound, as long as it isnt into the 40s or so shouldnt be bad, i mean i play my music loud on my klipsch 5.1s plus i have a good set of headphones.

Best way to eliminate case noise without spending any money turn the volume up so that its louder than the noise then you won't hear the computer.

Lol, yeah my klipsch promedia ultra 5.1s can do that.

I was talking about you know... lan parties, just browsing times, and stuff like that
times that I will have it, but wont have much of anything else to drown it out.

Have you ruled out a fan bus? Almost all fans are quiet when turning less than half of their max rpm's. You mainly need quiet computing when you're doing things than don't require lots of cooling (web browsing, typing stuff, you know....) if you're playing games etc., turn up the fans and you still won't hear them (except for the Delta's and Tornado's of the world. You can hear them while blowdrying your hair at a rock concert!).
