question about server 2003 raid 5

right, i have just setup another 3 x 320gb array on a different server using w2k3 software raid this time. (rebuilding is taking the piss)

i was wondering if my os drive died would i be able to plug the array in once i have reinstalled and windows detect it?

software raid5... yikes. I think if you do asr backups with system state you could reload 2003 and have your array back...


what are you going to be using it for, that thing is gonna be wicked slow if you have to do alot of writes
 
its slow, but it works....ill take that

yea if you have to reload windows, when you reinstall youll goto disk management, and itll show foreign disks, just import them, the volues and such, and it should right away begin to resync them...although slowly

on my 1700XP w/ 1gb ram, and 4 x 250GB drives, it takes about 6 hours to sync :)
 
i am using this server for a media server/torrent download so no heavy writes here. Its not too slow :p the read speeds are about the same as a single dive so its all good. Te rebuild is gona take about 5 hours i think.

So if i stick them in another 2003 server they will show as foreign disks? do i just intalize them and then it will resync?
