Question about selling something AS IS

Hey everyone I need some help,

I sold some items "as is" I tested some of the items and they were all working, now the user recieved an item that was dead or maybe he caused it to die and is requesting a refund. I've been to a couple of places about this problem and got some help but it never hurts to ask again. Can the user do anything about it? it was sold as is, and all sales were final. Can the authorities do anything about it?
 
Well, if the item is as you described it you're pretty safe. Was the trade here? If so, do you have a link to the original FS/T thread?
 
Its your word against theirs...And unfortunately theirs counts before yours...

It's quite simple for me to have a dead processor and sell it as working and label it as "SOLD AS IS", not very ethical but possible..

Usually "As Is" is promptly used for items that are somewhat functional...But basic funtions work....

I disagree. "As is" denotes the fact that the seller provides no warranty or guarantee to the condition of the item. I personally would never buy an "As is" item because of this fact.

This is assuming of course that the seller marked it "As is" in good faith, and not as an attempt to sell good he knew to be broken.
 
As is gets no refunds, even if you said it worked. Next time just add two more words, no refund. then you won't have anymore problems. of course it also makes it harder to sell your item.
 
I never buy anything As-is online because its far too simple for a seller to label a defective item "As-is" and then just claim its a tough break instead of outright saying its broken and accepting the corresponding decrease in value.
 
The CPU was working, I tested it but it was kept in the little CPU plastic cases for about a month or so, I was under the impression it was still working, I labelled everything that was defective or none working clearly on everything. Again I seen the CPU work and took proper care of it, the other CPU's & motherboards had no problems at all. I stated that all sales were final and everything was sold AS-IS in my terms & conditions part of the thread.

No the sale didn't take part here but it was posted here as well. I closed the sales thread here and edited the ones on others forums. The edit of the terms of sale was edited before any sale was completed.
