Hey guys, I am fixing up a friends computer and it uses Rambus. I've never really delt with it before so I have a question. The system is a 733MHz PIII, running on a 133MHz FSB. The current memory that is in there is a 128MB stick of RDRAM, quoted at PC600 speed, as well as a dummy stick to take up the other spot. I was going to get him two 256MB sticks so that it would run a lot faster, and when I was going to buy them, there were a few different speeds. PC600, PC800, etc. What speed should a 133MHz FSB work with, and how fast could it work with?

Thanks for the help!

christ, for the price of RDRAM you could buy him a complete modern AMD system.

but since thats not what youre asking, just go with whats on the stick there, PC600. I am assuming youre taking out the 128 and the terminator (thats what the "dummy" stick is called) and putting the two 256 in their place, correct?

the pc600 rdram doesnt cost too much...just the pc1066 )

if it has pc600 stick with it, chances are it doesnt support higher

the dummy stick (c-ram i think its called...continuous ram?) i would think should make it slower...as the point of rdram is to run off of multiple of 2 sticks of it to give it full speed....
