Hey all i got a ATI 6970 it has a 8 pin and a 6 pin for power. I got 2 mod-right cables both are 6-pin pci-e to 6+2 pci-e.I know i can plug the 6 pin to 6 pin no problem. Question is can i use the 2nd cable to plug into the 8pin? even though there would only be 6 pins of power?? Im guessing i have to buy an 8 pin to 8 pin just wanted to be certain.

I know its probably an odd question but the 6pin to 6+2 doesnt semm to make sense unless you can use it on the 8 pin slot.

The extra 2 pins are just grounds (black), so they loop into the other grounds on the 6 pin. On the 6+2 adapter directly out of my PSU, the +2 just loop back to the ground pins of the main 6 pins, no extra wires, no trying to make it look like 8 pins.

You will be fine, since it is either power or it isn't. in the case of the +2, it isn't.

Sorry to report but that combo didnt work. I would just get 1 BEEEEEEP that lasted forever.
