Question about PCI-E extender

This post has no real practicality, just curiosity. To be honest, perfectly fine with no reply :)

I got the original idea from user 265586888 at semiaccurate

We know there is an inexpensive SATA to eSATA extender where you can install it at the slot, with one cable connected to internal SATA port. Then present and eSATA interface externally for external device connection.

Is it possible/do we have similar thing ?
1. inexpensive slot-type or card-type, one cable-connector inserted into internal PCI-E x16 slot.
2. Externally some workable cable-connector setup.
3. So that we can have PCI-E x16 VGA card out of the PC case in separate box/psu. You can then clock/cool it anyway preferable without complication of cramped case,power or heat.

this is likely more helpful only for multiple-cards CrossFire/SLI type of setup.

Appreciate your quick reply. I look at the link provided. You are absolutely right. Problem is only x1 and the price is extremely expensive.

I guess the idea does not apply practically for VGA display connection.

Although 1x PCI-E is obviously a bottleneck, it's only about 30% of a bottleneck according to a benchmark I saw. So if it was cheap, it'd still definitely be worth hooking up, say, an ATI 5870 running at 70% power compared with the crappy graphics inside most laptops.
 
There was a thread just a couple weeks ago on the same topic. Yes, there are products out there already, and yeah, they tend to be expensive.

i've been eyeing the vidock2 for a while now, it really is an interesting idea. you could almost have a "gaming" docking station for your laptop, i have been contemplating building a mini external box with a 5770 or something like that. Add in a 1.5tb HDD and you have a pretty good desktop replacement.

I have a g50vt-x1 and even though the 9800m gs is a great mobile card, this would be a great desktop docking type station. Everything i have been reading is saying the new GTX460 is a great card to use since it has excellent PCIE bandwidth usage (the 1x pcie will effect it less) with the next best thing being the ati 5xxx series.
