Question about paint for case. Gloss or Flat.

Hello. I have an old beige box that I was thinking about messing around with a bit just for some case modding experiments basically, and then do a budget build in at some point to have fold 24/7 and just have an extra computer in the place that anyone can use. Nothing extreme, but I figured I would paint it black and maybe throw a window on it, improve the cooling by putting a 120 fan on the front of the case and such. Things like that, mainly just to get some more experience with a dremel and such. My question for now though, is about the paint. What usually looks best on the outside of a case? A glossy black or a flat black? I'm probably going to go ahead and paint the interior flat black, but I'm not sure what to do for the outside. My current computer is a gloss black, but I'm not sure if it'd look the same on the other computer. Thanks in advance for any help.
 
Gloss is typically more durable and IMO looks better on the outside of a case.
 
Alright, I'll probably go with gloss after all then. Thanks for the opinion.

Have we talked already? This is exactly what I just finished doing.. LOL! I took an old beige Dell case and painted it black. I bought the spray paint at Home Depot. Specifically, I bought this:

1. (1) 12oz. can of Valspar Plastic Primer (it goes on clear).
2. (2) 12oz. cans of Valspar Black Plastic Paint. I ended up using numerous light coats for best results.
3. (1) 12oz. can of Valspar Lacquer Hi-Gloss. Again, take your time and use 2-3 very light coats.

A big helpful tip: DO NOT SPRAY ANY HEAVY COATS. DO NOT SPRAY ANY CLOSER THAN 10" - 12" INCHES FROM THE CASE. ANY CLOSER AND YOU WILL HAVE RUNNING PAINT, BAD SPLOTCHING and UNEVEN COATS. I use the push and release method. That help ensures that you do not get any running.. Takes longer but the results are soooo much better. Total time to completely primer, paint and laquer: FOUR DAYS.

Haha, no we haven't talked, but thanks a bunch for that info. Your case came out sick. That's exactly how I pictured the black looking in my mind, so I'll have to get that stuff you listed. Also, I'm gonna have to go read your work log now to see how you did that front fan thing. Looks sick.
