My question is simple:
Are OEM drives/components used or not?

no, if something was used by someone else it will be called "refurbished"clockworks said:What I mean is, where OEM components such as a DVD burner or CPU used by someone else?
I was going to say something similar - when buying OEM versions, check out the warranty coverage for that item. If you're only saving $10 on a $200 component and end up sacrificing a couple years of warranty, then you'll need to take a hard look at your priorities - saving money or the assurance of warranty coverage. So far, Retail versions have saved me about $200 in the long run (bad RAM after 2 1/2 years, bad CPU within 8 months, no OC on either).EnderW said:OEM is usually a better deal, but there are some exceptions
for example, on CPUs, the retail is usually only $5 - $10 more, but you get 2 more years of warranty and a stock HSF
on hard drives, however, OEM is a great deal, as it is usually cheaper, and the warranty is longer
