I recently upgraded from an old P4 1.8ghz to a Sempron 2800+ until my unemployed roommate gets a job and I can spend enough to step up to an A64 system. Anyway, I bought an Asus A7N8X-E deluxe to throw it in and it all works flawlessly, but only up to 179mhz FSB. No matter what I do, I cannot get it past that. I have corsair XMS 3000 cas 2 mem and I've also tried XMS 3200 Cas 2.5 (becuase of the 333mhz chip, either should have some headroom, the 3200 can do 225 mhz FSB stable in an Barton 2500+ we have). Both had the same result. Stable as a rock to 179mhz, as soon as you switch it to 180, the computer won't even post. Usually things will get a little unstable before a non-post speed, so I can't see why 1 mhz FSB is making such a difference
. Messed with voltages, tried the different Ram, etc, no clue as to why I'm having this issue. Tried updating the BIOS, even to a version of the Uber BIOS I have on the Barton and no luck. Have also run with no cards in, except video if it makes a difference. Video is a 9600 Pro. Running currently at 2.16 ghz at 179mhz fsb and it's nice, right next to a 3000+ for performance, less than 0.5% difference in benches (can't complain for a free chip), but I thought I might get more and this doesn't sound like hardware failure, any ideas?
