Question about OCin and SATA

I was considering buyuing a couple large HDs to replace my older pata raid setup. Im thinking about buying some SATA drives and I was wondering if theres any problem using SATA when your OCin your FSB. Im running perfectly on the 250 FSB atm, and would hate to have to run slower or lose the ability to go any higher if I switched over from a PCI ide controller to the sata. Anyone have any problems running a SATA drive when ocin the fsb.

Depends on the mobo. If your mobo has SATA locks, you'll be fine. If it doesn't, you'll get data corruption if you put your FSB over ~210 or so.
 
How can you find out about SATA locks. My mobo has a AGP/PCI lock.. so I assume theres a different lock for SATA. I believe my SATA ports are running off the southbridge, I woudl think that woudl make a dif compared to a sata chip that was added.
 
Search google or yahoo for "<your mobo name>" sata lock

Don't be so lazy man :p Usually if it has AGP / PCI locks it'll lock SATA as well. Search the net.
 
Isnt the SATA running from the PCI bus like PATA ?

So when you lock PCI/AGP it lock SATA ?
 
Not necessarily. My board for example has AGP / PCI locks, but only SATA 3/4 are locked. 1/2 ports are not.
 
Well the SATA ports on the chipset aren't on the PCI bus so they wouldn't get locked. Other ports on the PCI bus (Such as those on an added controller) wouldn't get OC'ed because they are locked when the PCI bus is.
 
Thats what I was affraid of. My board only includes the 2 sata ports that are off the ICH5-R southbridge. I wasnt sure if they were locked. I did do research about the sata locks and didnt see anything about the AS8, but its a newer mobo though, and the most of the stuff i found all talked about the problem with a64 southbridges, and wanst sure if the same problem was in the intel side of the equation.
