Question about NB and CPU/NB voltage

I'm starting a new OC from scratch and I've scoured the web for info on voltage settings when OC'ing the NB but I'm still kinda confused.

My bios allows for 2 NB voltage adjustments. One is just NB and my bios only allows it to be bumped up by .1, .2, and .3.

The CPU/NB adjustment is more akin to CPU voltage with numerous .25 increments starting from stock.

When I start to OC the NB which of these voltage settings should I be paying attention to?

edit: The main reason I'm focusing on the NB now is that when I try to run it at 2400mhz I get errors when running OCCT. When I turn it down to 2200mhz I pass the 1hr test no probs.
 
2400Mhz is way too high for the NB, leave it at 2200Mhz and raise the Voltage .1v over stock.
The CPU/NB can be run @ 2400Mhz easily on 1.25v

Whoa...you've just confused me even more.

When it comes to frequency/mulitplier I don't have an option for CPU/NB...only NB. Now I do have voltage settings for NB and CPU/NB. This is where I'm getting confused...is my bios lacking something???
 
Ok...I think I found the answer, 5 pages into a Google search. :rolleyes:

The CPU/NB voltage is to be adjusted when raising the NB frequency. Yay...now for some more OCCT runs. :eek:
 
OK you have to understand that the NB and the CPU/NB are two different animals.
The NB is on the motherboard and the CPU/NB is on the CPU die and the CPU/NB voltage has nothing to do with the NB and by the same token the NB voltage has nothing to do with the CPU/NB

Thanks for the advice. I actually got it all figured out last night. I've now got a new stable OC. 3.8ghz with a CPU/NB frequency of 2600. I left OCCT running last night and woke up to a PASS!!! Woot!
 
You do want to raise the IMC(NB) to the highest speed you can. It will make a very noticeable difference, especially with anything that requires constant access to system memory. I've found that games play better with a 3.6Ghz CPU/2.6GHz NB than a 3.9GHz CPU/ 2.2GHz NB. Your current speeds of 3.8/2.6 is very nice.

I forgot to add that raising the IMC speed will also up the clock on the L3 cache, which is very beneficial with almost any CPU heavy task.
