Question about my overclock

I have an FX-55 water cooled and 2 sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200XLPT that I'm overclocking. I am running the FX-55 at 1.6V and the ram at 2.8V.

My question is, is it safe to run the cpu at 1.6V constantly? I have my computer on for about 5 hours a day and play a lot of games. Temps are not a problem as it is only hitting 45C. My second question is, should I set the memory at 2-2-2-5 and a lower FSB or 2-3-3-7 and a higher FSB? How will I know whether the looser timings will have exceeded the tighter timings?

Generally timings won't affect games all that much.

Use Sandra 2005 to test Memory Bandwidth or Everest for statistics on your ram. Try both, bench games and bandwidth and see what works best.

1.6v is fine for your CPU 24/7. Especially on watercooling, no worries there at all. I run mine at 1.65v with the stock fan daily.

Using Sandra, the looser timings show more bandwidth. But I heard that AMDs prefer lower latencies. Also, with 3-3-3-8, I can get it to 250mhz (this is the highest I've gotten so far and could be higher). Would this be a better overclock than 2-2-2-5 which hit maximum at 205mhz. Sandra showed 5000mb with 2-2-2-5 and over 6000 with 3-3-3-8.

Usually running a higher FSB even with looser timings will balance out to better performance. For my, 264x10, 1:1, 3-3-3-10 gives me less performance overall (including Sandra) as opposed to 240x11, 1:1, 2.5-3-3-10. So that is the setting I prefer.

Benchmark your games man, that is what you want the performance in after all, isn't it? ;)

Generally it won't make much of a difference at all.

Use 3DMark05 or whatever you normally play. You probably won't see a difference except in synthetic benchmarks.

Use whatever you like, it's all the same. If you're trying to get your best performance for gaming, then benchmark some games. 3D05 can't hurt, but I'd bench with games as well for sure :)

So far I've benched with 3D 05 and Sandra 2005's CPU arithmetic, CPU multimedia, and Memory bandwidth. All results are almost exactly the same except memory bandwidth. The looser timings had a higher fsb so obviously it would do better.

If all your gaming benchmarks are the same, then it's really up to you what you prefer. It won't affect your gameplay, so it doesn't matter.

Flip a quarter and pick :p

OK, here's my overclock so far.

FX-55 @ 2.85Ghz 1.65V
219Mhz FSB on 1 gb Corsair XMS PC3200XLPT @ 2-3-3-5

That as far as I can go. If I raise that FSB 1 more mhz, my games will crash. I play NFS Underground 2. Could it be the memory that's holding it back? If I'm to loosen the timings more, what timings should I try?
