Hey guys, so i have a 15" macbook pro and have been experiencing some issued. Up until now, everything functioned fine on this mac. About 6 months ago, the battery went and it hasnt been able to hold a charge, i have to leave it plugged into the wall for it to function. Is this bad for the other components? to be constantly connected to a power source?

About a week or two ago i noticed a thin green line of dead pixels on the right side of the screen. I would assume this means my lcd is going, but could it be due to the power issue?

should i try and ebay this item off while i still can? is my lcd going?

Leaving the laptop pluggged in all the time will not harm any of the parts but just totally kills the battery if it is not officially dead.

How old is this mbp? Do you still have any warranty or applecare on it?

Your LCD is not going to suddenly not work. The green line (if it goes all the way either horizontally or vertically) is either a row driver or column driver gone bad, or simply the tape/heatseal material which has become slightly disintegrated from either the LCD driver board or LCD glass. happens if pressure is applied to these, or have become brittle for whatever reason. It cannot be repaired.

Leaving it plugged in wouldn't harm the battery, unless it's charging threshold is badly implemented. If it's a battery you leave in all the time, you shouldn't keep it charged at 100%, but leave it at 90-95%. I don't know what Apples charging thresholds are, but it won't just keep charging like an old, slow and cheap NiCD battery charger.

Maybe if you sell it, consider to sell it as parts, since the dead battery makes it less portable and the dead line may make it distracting for some. That compared with how many of these are ebayed could make it a bit hard selling it for as much as parts alone. Just an idea.

for some reason, the line on my display decided to go away. its back to normal, but who knows for how long
