I was wondering if 46 degrees celcius is a good tempature for an athlon xp 2400 running @ 2.0ghz? Should I be making efforts to decrease the tempature?

Also - is adding more fans to the case good for overclocking the athlon 2400 or do i have to do something like watercooling?

I want to at least overclock it to 2.5ghz!

yeah its good, my 2600+ runs at 47c with 2.35ghz and 1.9vcore, stock cooling too! btw its idle temp, loading temp is 49c

To get to 2.5Ghz, that's starting to get into extreme overclocking territory. You will need case fan's to get a nice overclock of your Xp2400. You may even find you need water cooling to go that high. It all depend's on the core volts you require to get to 2.5Ghz, or even as high as your cpu will go. Three of my four Xp2400 cpu's need water cooling to get above 2350Mhz. The core volts required to get there, makes the cpu's too hot to be stable for long periods of time with air cooling. Water cooling on the other hand, 100% stable 24/7. I've been playing with water cooling my uni cpu xp2400 dedicated f@h boxen, now it's time for the case mod's to get the radiator in there, and set it up properly! On stock volts, i have taken that cpu to 2250Mhz. 100% stable. 12.5% overclock based on original Mhz. Btw, i run my cpu's @ 100% load 24/7, folding@home. :D

As for your temp question, if that's idle temp, it's ok, if it's 100% load temp, taken after the case has had time to stabalise, then it's pretty good for air cooling!

highly doubt you will hit 2.5 with a 2400...doubt you will even get 2.4

If your temp is not causing you to crash....why trip about it??
