I'm looking to throw one in my current Notebook, a Gateway NV75S02u. The question I have is, where would I obtain the heatsink for the VGA card? I've tried looking around on Ebay, to no avail.

Well, the MXM standard defines the cooler mounting layout already, basically all MXM cards have the GPU die and mounting holes in the same place so that the coolers are universal.

With that being said, if your laptop already has an MXM 3.0(a or b) card, the cooler you have will (physically) work with any other MXM 3.0b card.
If you don't already have a card and plan on adding one, then you would need to find the stock GPU cooler assembly for your laptop.

Currently doesn't contain a MXM card. :( Having no luck finding the stock assembly either.

Wondering if I could use a modified CPU heat pipe, but I doubt it.

if your laptop has a mxm slot then it might work, lots of stuff to consider when installing a mxm card

um.. doesn't your laptop have the A8-3500m/6620m ? that laptop doesn't have a mxm card slot...

It does contain a slot, I noticed it when I replaced the stock thermal paste on the CPU.

Look around for other gateway models with the same chassis design as yours with a dedicated GPU, then lookup the parts on ebay and see if you can find the GPU cooler for it.

Gateway will make a lot of different models of the same chassis with each one having its own model number and some of the time the components are compatible.

Gotcha. Just noticed that it's actually a MXM 3.0a slot, not b. :(

I'd love to have one of those, but no way in hell for that price.

lol, yeah. It would be cheaper to sell your current laptop and just buy a new one for that price.

I had a Dell Inspiron 9100 back in the day, it came with the Geforce 6800, but I upgraded the GPU to a 6800 Ultra only costed me like $100 when I got it, maybe a year later I checked on Ebay and people were paying like $300+ for it, so I ended up setting the 6800 Ultra for a nice profit and put the 6800 back instead.
