Question about multi-GPU microstuttering

I've never Crossfired or SLI'd GPUs before, but am considering it. I have a Crossfire motherboard and HD 6870 cards are often pretty inexpensive now. I read this article on Tom's Hardware about the problem:

The FPS dips are pretty bad with both systems (although X-fire is worse). My question is if you only have a 60 Hz monitor, use vertical sync and your multi-GPU setup is capable of pushing over 100 FPS, would you experience any microstutter? I was thinking since its capped at 60 FPS nothing would happen.
 
Not usually no, I can sense microstutter easily, but beyond 60fps on a 60Hz display, it's very rarely evident. In the worst cases I need 75fps before it goes away, beyond that it's fine.
 
Thanks for the replies. I have just a 1680x1050 monitor and am trying to figure out a cheap system for keeping my FPS nailed at 60 as much as I can. I was hoping with the v sync and X-fire I could (and the microstuttering wouldn't rear its head since the system should be capable of more than that even with the dips).
 
I wouldn't use vsync if you want a smooth experience - you're better off turning it off.
