Question about mic on web cam

So for christmas i got a Microsoft LifeCam Cinema HD 720p and it has a mic on top of the camera. i was wondering if this is a good mic and if i would be able to use it while the camera was off (like for gaming)

would the quality be good enough or should i get a clip-on mic on top of this?
