Question about Kentsfield (4 core intel)

Will kentsfield run on the same motherboard chipset as the E6700, because if i won't be able to upgrade to it when it comes out, i might hold off on buying a conroe.

Also what is Clovertown? I hear its also a 4 core chip? im confused... Whats the difference?
 
Kentsfield will probably work in the 965 Series of chipsets as well as those Rev 304 975 chipset motherboards.

Kentsfield is the desktop Quad Core, Clovertown is the same thing but it's made for the Xeon DP space instead of desktop.

Clovertown is Xeon Quad Core, which is for Server and Workstation platforms. It'll launch on the 5000 series Chipset. As for Kentsfield... I understand that it'll run on a later sku of 975 silicon, not necessarily the current Rev. 304 boards. So if you want quad core, I wouldn't base my decision on that though, you should wait for 965.

No idea... but why do you want to go quad core over Dual core? IMHO quad core on desktop systems is marketing hype pure an simple. Just curious...

For gaming that might be true, but doing other stuff that is multithreaded (i.e. dvd shrink, workstation graphics) will kick ass. Also, eventually gaming will catch up, may take a couple years though.
