question about Intels mindset..

Having an interesting conversation with a co-worker. We were talking about our new workstations that came in (Dell Optiplex 745's) and how one of our Mac test machines needs to be updated etc. I mentioned that you can get Macs with Intel based processors now and he came back with "well yeah but it's not really optimized for Macs, Intels builds their processors with Windows in mind and are specifically optimized to Windows".

If that's true that doesn't make much sense to me but I could be wrong. Would Intel make their processors "optimized" for Windows? I guess I thought that a processor was a processor and that it would perform at it's potential in a Mac OS or Windows machine regardless.

Hope this makes sense and any replies are appreciated!

You can turn it around and say, Mac is not optimizing their OS for Intel.

And don't forget the mandatory "OWNED" thing :)

I agree with this and actually, the Intel processor is fairly OS independent.
 
Although I am sure Intel does consider Windows performance when designing their CPUs, all CPUs I've ever come across can run alternate OS' without a performance penalty. (Assuming the OS coders know the tricks a CPU can perform.)

Intel designs an implementation of an instruction set, not a Windows-executor. :p
 
Macs are not optimized for the intel processors? Ive owned 2 macs in the last 1.5yrs and i can tell you first hand they most certainly are.

i own a m1210 now, and its just as fast as the macs were. Different strokes for different folks i guess
