im actually taking a A+ class in college atm LOL, only cause my older bro keep making stupid remarks when i mess up my computer... he like the total computer genius etc, and it comes natural to him... anywho we were learning how to partition and installing hard drives in lab... the one in lab we set then main one to master and the 2nd one to slave...

everything worked fine and dandy and used fdisk to partition the drive the old fashion way since we are using old computers... i notice in my machine which i use mostly for gaming and /cough downloading animes :) ... i have a 120 gig WD HD that i use but there no jumpers on it... i also have a 60 gig HD that i want to use for more space... i put the 120 gig on master before i put the 2nd one on... i get an error message... does the 2nd HD have to be in also as a slave to make it work? cause i only have 1 jumper atm and need to get another one since i lost it somewhere and probably vacuumed it up...

on windows xp pro, i just go to the start menu, control panel, device management and partion there etc..

cliff notes help :p

It depends on the drive... I believe some of them have no jumpers = master (which is what most are, I think), and some have no jumpers = cable select. Try removing the jumper from your main hard drive and setting the second one as slave and seeing fi that works. If all else fails, read the lable on the drive :p

yea, LOL, the main 120 gig HD doesnt have a jumper... i was pretty confuse at first since the one at school had one for each HD... ah i c, ill just set the 2nd one to slave you say... what is cable select? i know new machines are plug and play but the one in lab we had to do it manually in start up bios... the 60 gig hd was on my old machine.. its a wd 60 gig 7200 rpm hd... all i have to do is plug it in, set it to slave... how would i go on formatting it and setting it up... or is it also plug in play... im really a computer noob, but im really trying to learn... im more of a visual learner then just reading stuff... but i can do it with baby steps o_O

oh btw i have a
p4 3.06 gig
intel mobo
1 gig rdram
nvidia 5600 ultra 256
wd 120 gig 7200 HD
wd 60 gig 7200 HD <-- trying to put in :p
sony cd burner
sony dvd burner
floppy drive

windows xp pro forn teh win!

You should just be able to set the 60 gig to slave, put it in, and boot up. Then go to My Computer and there *should* be a new drive letter there. You can right click on it and format it from there just like you would a floppy disk, if you need to. :D

thx alot man!!! :D im at work atm, and if it works when i get home ill paypal you 10 bucks for your trouble :D

It's no trouble, hope it works for you. If not... Then feel free to beat me or something  :)
