I got this monitor debranded and refurbished from buy.com a month ago for 140 $, and I love It. The specs say it is only capable of 1680x1050 res, which is perfectly fine and matches the res of my main monitor. But in windows, when using HDMI, i can set it to do 1080p. It doesnt look quite right, its a little blurry and it shrinks the actual picture on the screen by about a half inch on each side. Is it supposed to be able to do this, and is there anyway i can get a full picture while doing 1080p with it ?

I got it to fit the whole screen, Text looks a little scrunched sometimes but games etc look beautiful.

Is it safe to be running it at this res ?

the w2207 is indeed 1680x1050. It will never be able to do true 1080p, so if you are somehow outputting 1080p to it, it will always look kinda blury at certain parts at this resolution. I would instead output 1680x1050 to it, as you are not getting any more detail outputting 1080 to it, and are arguably losing detail.

as for: "is it safe"?, yes. inputting non native resolutions will not damage the lcd.

Ok thanks, just a quick kind of related side question, why cant i do that to my other monitor (samsung 226bw)

by default, windows and most video driver suites will not allow you to go higher than the native resolution of an lcd monitor. There are ways of bypassing this though. It's hard to say why exactly it's allowing you to go above.
