i'm planning on getting HDD docking stating, but i see few dual bay with single eSATA and USB. now i understand USB, but how does it make problem for eSATA option (like i can only use one drive at a time on eSATA interface) i've also seen few triple and quad bay option, are those any good or i'm better with just 2 bay drive? (i want docking station option so i can easily move it around) also will those work on two different system? for example connected to one PC with eSATA and another with USB 3.0 (not at the same time even though it'll be cool)

i've seen few with USB 3.0 too and considering that and better if i can get option with USB 3.0 and eSATA. any suggestion? i've one eSATA, few USB 3.0 options on media center.

I'm also interested in this question. Is it possible to use the same docking station for both 2.5" and 3.5" drives?

For some reason no one seems too interested in making what you're asking for. I bought recently a two bay enclosure and there was not much choice, and most of them had outrageous prices. In the end since it was for an older computer I took one with eSATA and USB2, with RAID capability (I needed RAID1).

For myself I use 6 IcyDock 4 bay enclosures with eSATA and USB2, they include a SATA port multiplier, an old school Silicon Image, there is no new version of this with USB3, and no new Silicon Image chip either.

my main confusion is, can i put two HD on thermaltake dock and copy data from one HD to another? and when it's connected to PC with eSATA how does it access two HD in PC, does it access them individually or show them as they are in raid? cause i might have missed it but haven't read any news of single SATA supporting multipal sata interface (unlike USB). same question goes for USB 3.0 (although since USB 3.0 has up stream and downstream in same cable it'll be able to copy it but still want to make sure)

and to aesma, does your icydock give any advantage over the open dock systems (like once i've linked) i did like the hot swap option, also does it show up as raid drive when more than two drives are installed or separate drive? or do you've to configure it via software for it? and does it allow copy of data rather than making image of entire drive?
 
They depend on the manufacturer and the model.
A number of the dual slot docks that have USB and eSata do it like this:
You can only have one port live at a time (USB or eSata. Since these are dumb passthroughs, imagine the damage you would see if 2 separate machines were talking to the same drive and the same file at the same time, with nothing in the middle to handle record locking and the like). They usually have a port multiplier built in which will let the device show up as two separate drives. You can access them separately and copy data back and forth between them, it is just like having 2 drives attached to 2 ports. These tend to be the models that have open slots that you just drop drives vertically into and will tend to be temporary. Others are models that can handle RAID0, RAID1 & JBOD. Generally in those they have a dip switch that you set to choose your drive operating mode.

Thanks that's why i wanted to know, as for now i'm most interested in SilverStone DS321B only wished it had eSATA option as well and some kind of bracket for 2.5".

I have setup one of these to do RAID1 for backup for a friend of mine. It is a great aluminum unit, does JBOD, RAID0 & RAID1, has eSATA and USB3. It has great reviews on newegg and amazon and is like $82 delivered
 
I did checked the ventec nexstar, but the silverstone having tool less design caught my eye as it was one of the main reason i want to get something like this (was planning on getting docking station before) i did check few others but having over priced/bad rating and more/less of tool less design (all in all got tired of searching over internet for it) but didn't like any.

A little more money, but http://www.datoptic.com/dual-bay-raid-enclosure-usb2-0-usb3-0-and-esata.html pretty much has what you want. Tool-less, USB2/3, eSata with port multiplier, JBOD, RAID0, RAID1 and even does spanning (2 drives which show up as 1 letter, but can be accessed separately outside of the unit. Unlike RAID0, if you lose 1 drive you just lose the data on that one, not the other
 
as far my need goes, i think your suggestion (although great) doesn't justify my spending on the mark that needs (as i can always get another USB 3.0 cable and be done with it) beside the datoptic once looks rather bulky.
