so unfortunately i'm leaving for the evening right now, but here's something i ran into at my local microcenter:
6800 128mb, etc (the "NU") - about $300
9800 xt 256mb, etc - about $450
when i asked the salesguy, he tells me that it's because of the extra memory. don't give me that, it costs them practically nothing to put the extra 128mb on, as far as i'm concerned. so why was the (imho) inferior card priced to much higher? is it because ATi charges to darned much more, or is there some other reason?
note: the salesguy was my friend who's probably a touch more knowledgeable about computers than i, and it was idle speculation, not a customer sales pitch, alright, so no need to think his guesswork had anything to do with the pricing.
other note: i'm pretty sure they'd try to overcharge like that for the 5950 Ultra 256mb too, so i don't even know if it's just because of the ATi vs nVidia deal. so why are high-end last gen cards priced to much higher than the superior new-gen middle-range cards?
