Question about ghosting

Hey guys,

Nother question for all of ya. I've never seen what ghosting looks like as a result of not having experience with many LCD monitors. I had a Hyundai L90D+ and it was great for gaming but bad for graphic design.

Anyways the reason I ask this is because I have a line on a great deal on a LCD that is unfortunately 25ms but I've seen in in action for the graphics end and it's just what I need. It's a Samsung 920T and here's a review for example. http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?pageID=1353&Submit=Go&cID=765 as you can see they state "minimal" ghosting. Now do you think this could potentialy drive an avid gamer such as myself nuts?

Main point here is that I can return it where I'd be getting it from but is it even worth bringing it home in the first place.

PS: I play a lot of 1st person shooters.
 
Unfortunetaly, I'm afraid the answer is no. It's not a good monitor for gaming. It's a PVA panel so it's going to ghost pretty bad. Either try with IPS panels (25ms IPS is like twice as fast as a 20ms PVA!) or wait for new PVA panels with overdrive.
 
Anybody know of any IPS 17 or 19" LCDs? From what I've seen, they are only in 20" and greater, and are quite expensive right now.
 
There are some 19" IPS LCDs and they all use the same LG Philips 25ms panel. They are pretty good all around monitors IMO.
 
I personally just bought the 920T, waiting for it from Newegg. Even if it doesn't perform well, at least it's damn stylish right? Well anyway, if you google "920T reviews" there are about five real ones out there, and I believe all of them said they found no problems with ghosting (one dude apparently tried a crazy action scene from an Akira DVD and said it ran perfectly). I can't say for certain that there is no ghosting, but that's just the sense I get from them reviewers. And since you have the ability to easily return it (it sounds like) then I think at the very least it's worth a try. Best of luck!

Btw, Newegg knocked $230 of the price of this thing for no reason- I've been tracking it for months heh. It's now at a pretty $420.

It's a PVA panel which means there is no exceptions. It will ghost pretty bad is some situations.. Here's the RT graph for the 920T:

As you see, in close transitions it goes over 100ms which guarantees you will see a lot of ghosting in games where there is alot of greys.

My 2405fpw is PVA and has almost no noticeable ghosting. If I look for it I can see some in fast paced games, but while concentrating on gaming in BFV I don't notice it.

PVA does not automatically=bad ghosting

Your monitor has a new generation of PVA panels plus an overdrive circuit. With regular PVA panels, ghosting is guaranteed.

I haven't seen any documentation anywhere on the Samsung but we're pretty sure it doesn't have any sort of overdrive I guess?

Yeah. The first 19" PVA monitor with overdrive by Samsung will be the 193P+.
 
All the new 8ms PVA panels from Samsung have overdrive. I've also seen some reviews of a 19"MVA panel by Au Optronics, which doesn't ghost either. Its being used in a new revision of the dell 1905fp. Furthermore, there is also a new revision of the Viewsonic Vp191 which is 8ms mva. I suspect that the new Dell and new Viewsonic monitors are using the same panel.
