If i were to fold a celeron at 2.8, would it be the same as a 2.8 p4?

okay so how about a p4 2.8 mobile processor compared to a 2.8 celeron? pretty much the same
 
P-M 2.8? (don't make this). I think the P4- mobiles are just regular P4's
 
A P4 is a P4. A mobile is an entirely different core code. Mobiles also handle instruction sets differently. So a Mobile chipset may be clocked at 1.5, but it is actually comparable to a 2.8 P4.

And also, anything you can add helps the cause, big or small. :)

This is true for the Pentium-M processors, but before those, there actually was a Pentium4 Mobile, which was a Pentium 4 with, I'd imagine, lower voltage... similar to the mobile Athlon XP in that sense. So I'd agree with marty in that the P4M would be equal to a desktop P4.
 
^^ Doh! I totally forgot about those. You are correct, I did double check and it is indeed a cooler, lower volted P4.

Yes, much like the 3.06GHz Pentium4 in my Sony Vaio sitting next to me (which is folding 24/7 btw).

I don't know what you are thinking of doing c0ex, but most p4 mobiles don't correctly work in desktop boards, since the board will only work with the lowest multi number. Just a heads up.

 
Pentium M's, though, do work; you'll need a socket 479 board or the 479->478 converter that Asus (I think...) made. They use less power than desktop chips (12-25 watts IIRC), and they're pretty efficient at what they do, so they're decent choices for farm boxen.

 
And I think you can overclock the living hell out of them. Over at xtremesystems.com they have many threads about this.

Ends up not being the cheapest thing in the world, but cooler/more energy efficient than most anything.
 
If I had $1000 that I was going to spend on folding, I'd sooner spend it on the X2s and the Intel dual core, since they are newer and support x64 extensions

I like the idea that was proposed to get half and half Intel and AMD. That way if any proteins come out that like one over the other you'll be balanced.
