what exactly is folding @ home. Some sort of tracker? does it contain all of the folding programs? why not just download all the folding programs seperatly.

srry i am teh noob. thanks

What is Folding at home?

We are trying to accomplish work on this .

about the programs.

you download the client and it will download the work units and the cores (individual required programs) as necessary. So you only download what you need to get the calculations done.

Tracker?

Stanford added some points to the whole process to add some fun to it. Distributed Computing isn't terribly fun without it. This allows for some compettion between teams and individuals on teams. Points are awarded based on the difficulty of each work unit completed.

It's a totally seperate program.

In laymens terms, it does calculations for scientists at stanford.... the calculations are so numerous that they have to share the work to volunteer computers. That's where we come in.... we do the calculations for them to answer their questions so that they have the information they need to advance in the fight against cancer and alzheimers.

The statistics are just a tool we use to stay pumped up.... to keep it at the front of our minds. It makes it something we're DOING, instead of something we DID. The little icons you see are a method of recruitment, of sorts... "*I* have *this* many points... how many do *you* have??" By producing that level of competition, the folding @ home project benefits. :D

We don't do seti.

We do have a team for UD, and a team for F@H (folding at home). F@H is what you see the icons for, and the new icons with detailed information also support UD.

Check out www.hardfolding.com for more information.

does the [H] crowd have a team for UD and SETI speratly? or am i on my own there

I dont think there is a seti team, but we are part of both the UD and folding@home. You can have your rig set up either. F@H team# is 33 and here are the details for that.
Here are the UD details for this one.
Join up the [H]orde needs you!

Thanks xENo!!!

I tried setting up the UD account, but since I am on a laptop, I dunno when I am gonna be able to turn it on. My Nazi of a laptop kicks on 100% of CPU power and warms the whole damn thing up even for this. thus i dunno if i can join the foldin team now. but i plan too soon!

also, the folding@home need to be reprogrammed so it is as easy to join the team as in UD. like a web based thing, but thats only my opinion

thanks everyone

using the console based version of f@h is pretty easy, just add the -config flag to the shortcut and it will ask you for a user name and team #. doesnt seem all that hard to me ;)

ur right, im just lazy. i skimmed over the page and it was like 3-4 screens down so i stopped reading
