question about flexraid??

i am wondering if i can lot of data on all of the drive and i want to use flexraid. do i have to format the drive that i want to use flexraid? or i can just use flexraid w/o format it?
 
You'll need a clean drive for the parity data, so you'd either have to format one or have a spare drive, but there is no requirement to remove the data from the data drives before starting.
