Hey guys, I just used the extreeme PSU calculator and input the watteges of what I think my rig will consume once its fully upgraded. The PSU I'm looking to purchase is about 40 watts aboce my "fully upgraded" wattage requirement- is this enough headroom?

The PSU is one of the recommended ones in this forum's faq

Who knows. Is that 40W on the 12V rail? 40W on the 5V rail?

Total wattage is only the sum of all rails total capability added together. If a PSU puts out 480W, but only has 18A on the 12V rail, it doesn't help you even if your "demand" is 420W if you calculate a 24A load on the 12V rail! (read: PSU go boom.)

What's your "final upgrade" complete config and which PSU are you looking at?

Thank you for making me click on a Newegg link just so I can find out you're looking at an Enermax EG375P-VE.

Although the Abit board you're using does regulate the CPU voltage off of the 12V rail, the upgrade to a 3200+ requires nothing additional over the 2500+ you have now.

ATI cards are very lower power and it is "only" an AGP card, which means it uses less power and that power is derived from more rails (3.3V, 5V And 12V) than a PCI-e card (some 3.3V and 5V but mostly 12V.)

The power supply is barely going to flinch. But if you do eventually go to an A64 or P4 with PCI Express, consider a new PSU. 14A on the 12V rail isn't going to take you very far.
