I currently use a Netgear 605 switch to connect my and my wife's PCs to our DSL modem/router. I've been really satisfied with its performance, so I'm inclined to purchase an identical one to accommodate our unexpectedly expanding networking needs, as such:
(ok, for some reason, my ASCII art isn't working. Basically I want to connect the two FS605's by an Ethernet cable.)
Netgear advertises that the FS605 provides automatic uplink sensing. Therein lies my question. If both FS605's see each other at the same moment and both try to compensate for whatever type (straight-through or crossover) of Ethernet cable is run between them, will they end up thrashing and never settle out, or are they smart enough to play nice together?
