if any of you guys have this computer, i was wondering if you formatted it once you got it. i'm trying right now to format it, but it won't allow me because i don't have a floppy drive. i have the 160 gig sata150 hd and the hd isn't recognized without a floppy with a driver for the controller. i was wondering if this is how sata drives are. thanx for any input.

I had the same problem when i tried to reformat my 9100, then i installed a old floppy from an old computer and downloaded the drivers here http://tastycomputers.com/support/d...on_accelerator_raid_edition_floppy.htm#models
but after u install you may need to download the audio, video and NIC drivers from dells site. Because my sound, wasn't working,my resolution wasn't correct and my built in NIC wasn't functioning, now everything is fine and the computer is noticably faster after the reformat.
Also before u reformat you may want to make a backup of the operating system already installed.I didnt get a cd from dell but they have a utility that allows you to make 1 backup. It's in the programs under one of the dell programs and it tells u to enter a cd-r. I forget which program.

thanx alot for the information and links. i'll relay this info to my friend back in the states working on my comp for me while i'm overseas. :D

That uses the new ICH7 southbridge? I guess it must since ICH6 and older is supported by the SP2 version of the WinXP install CD.

Anyways, you can always slipstream the RAID drivers onto the OS CD that you create. Download and extract the drivers from the link above and use this guide to upgrade your CD: http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=284
