Question about database traffice across a network

I'm currently working on a school project that involves moving a 25GB+/hour of traffic across a network. I know a little bit about databases but more from a single computer than a network setting. When designing a network with concerns about database traffic, what is important when it comes to transferring that data IE RAM, processor speed etc. I'm familiar with networking IE fiber, CAT5 but not so much about databases, especially across networks.

If needed, the project calls for 150,000+ orders a month. I have some rough calcs done already so I know what type of storage requirements I might need. Again, it's just moving it across the network that I need a bit of input on.
