question about combining power

heres the situation. i just got a little shuttle that i plan to integrate into my big ass custom case to serve games off of while i play on my main, kind of two computers in one, in order to liquid cool both off one radiator.

my question is this: sence the shuttle only has a little crappy 400w power supply and its hard as hell to find a better one that will fit... what would happen if i wired the peripherals (cd drive, hard drives, etc) to be powered by my main PCs 750w OCz powerstream? im worried about getting voltages crossed, the power would be coming into the hard drive thru one power supply, but then it will be linked to the other PS thru the data cable>motherboard. i dont want it to be able force its way in either direction over that link and fry something. has anyone ever tried this before? both power supplies will be connected to the same input 120v line on the same circut.

I have a friend who has used 2 PSU's in one case...all he had to do was solder the 2 PSU grounds together and the power switch connector grounds.
