Hi

I just bought "cooler master hyper 212 plus", and it weights around 620 grams.
I am worried about the motherboards capabilty to hold that much weight in the long run.
I have to move my computer from time to time. The hyper 212 seems to have quite good brackets but it feels kind of heavy. Has anyone ever had any problems with coolers around
600 g

Thanks

In comparison with the weight of 620 grams would a cooler that weights around 470 grams be a better choice? like the cooler master hyper tx 3

lol, I hope they are not 620 kilograms! I think you mean grams.

It should be fine as long as it has a backplate that it bolts into. My Zalman 9500 is around 530g and I have never had an issue with it. Just make sure your board is secured well and it should be fine as long as you are not shipping it or throwing it around. If you do transport it in a car or something just lay it down on its side so that the cooler is sitting directly on top of the board instead of hanging.

ok well Iam going to get the computer shipped, not very far but some miles... I hope nothing brakes on the way... :/ The guy I ordered the computer form told me there would be no problems at all... I am not sure about that...

i'd be careful, moving the case back and forth is gonna put a lot of strain and pull on the heatsink. it could severely warped the motherboard or destroy the socket

The HS is ok....For normal use, but shipping it? No no no no NO! You ALWAYS remove the HS and anything else that can come free or put undue stress on parts/sockets (such as video cards). If someone else is sending this to YOU I would tell them to without a doubt remove the HS, or you might end up with a box of useless parts.

Then do you think 470 g cooler would be a better choise?

if he already shipped then it wouldnt matter. if he hasnt shipped, have him take off the original one.

Ok but lets say the computer arrives and everything works fine, do you think the shipping could have caused a minor damage to the motherboard that will adress itself in later use?

Like the screws or the socket are out of place...

Its about the way shipping places treat boxes, it can cause cracks in the traces on the mobo, or worst case, the HS comes lose and has a rampage inside the case. Seen it before...More than once.
