I have a Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1 motherboard. It has a feature where you can update the bios without anything installed on the board. My question is, I have a usb thumb drive. And I know you need to let windows format it. At lease 32 fat. I hot the bios update from Asus website. So do I just copy the bios file to the usb thumb drive? I some videos where they mention editing the name of the file. Why?

Hello

With the USB stick formatted as FAT32 copy the BIOS file to it. Boot into the BIOS and flash using the EZ Flash 2 utility in the Tools menu. You only need to rename the BIOS file if using USB BIOS Flashback. The proper procedure for using USB BIOS Flashback can be found in the included user manual.

I'm lost here. Just looked thru the manual and it doesn't mention renaming the bios file. So what do they rename it to?

The use of USB BIOS flashback can be found in section 2.2 of the manual. From the user manual for proper renaming:

When downloading or updating the BIOS file, rename it as Z97ST.CAP for this motherboard

Thank you for your help. I found a renamer Utility. You just put the bios file in the same folder as the Utility and execute it. It renames it.
