well i finally made the switch from nvidia to ati and now i have a quick question about drivers. back with nvidia i always uninstalled old drivers before installing new one, but i read somewhere that for ati cards i should just install over top the old ones. is this sill the best thing to do?

I believe it's okay to install ATI drivers on top of old ATI drivers. However, just to be safe, I (and I know many others) go ahead and remove all old drivers before installing new ones. It's really up to you.

I install new drivers over old drivers all the time and it works just fine.

I believe the only time you probably need to uninstall drivers first is if you are going from beta drivers to official drivers. And I think that is because the time stamp on the beta drivers can sometimes be newer than the official drivers that come after it. And that seems to cause issues.
