Question about artifacts (?) with X1900XT

I have a maybe stupid question:

I recently got a X1900XT and noticed something strange: Everytime i start a game, when the card switches from 2D to 3D mode, i get artifacts for about 1-2 seconds on the loading screen (very appearant in DoD:S or CS:S). I have no artifacts in the game itself nor is my card overheating at all. No crashes, no nothing. Performance is also as expected (stellar).
Let me clarify this a little further. The pattern is not in the game menu or anywhere in the game itself, just when i see the loading screens of games.

Question is: Are these artifacts normal? They look like some random stuck colored pixel pattern, sometimes more, sometimes less.

Does this have to do with the cards clocks getting higher? Just wondering...

Yes is normal. It is more prominent with the 6.4 catalyst. I read somewhere about this but can't recall where.

when I first had my 1900xtx it would occasionaly have artifacts across the very top of the screen when I would switch modes or change settings - simply maximizing a window into that area would make it go away
