Ok i'm considering new cooling ffor my gfx card/s. I'm ordering another x1950 xtx in the next few days and going crossfire but i've got a slight problem with the slave card i've got. I'll try to summerize this story as much as i can. I was getting quite hot temps on my card and decided on giving the card a good clean. I took off the gpu heatsink and there was literally DOLLOPS of thermal paste on the gpu. I cleaned up with 99% alcohol and put on a thin layer of Akasa ak450. Results were spectacular and temps dropped 10c - 15c. Next i started thinking about cleaning up undder the ramsinks. So i took the heatsink off and it was thermal pads instead of paste. I stupidly put the same paste under and on top of the pads (under ramsinks and on top of ram) The system started crashing. I've scrubbed and scrubbed these pads and the paste just won't come off. I've at least got the system pretty stable but the cards producing too much heat again. I've looked evertwhere int the UK for similar pads but i can't find them anywhere from any shop or online store. I was considering the accelero but finally my question. Does it have heatsinks for the ram also or do you have to leave the stock ram heatsink on and just have the cooler for the gpu alone? I cannot tell from any picture i've seen on the net so any help will be much appreciated. Max.

The Accelero X2 comes with thermal pads for the RAM.

You clean off anything that's on the RAM, then once it's bare you stick on the Accelero's RAM pads, then the Accelero itself on top of that.

Edit: See this thread for pictures of the RAM pads.

,.,Thanks very much for your reply joga, i couldn't find a photo like that anywhere on the net, nor the right info i needed so you've been a great help, again thanks. Well it looks pretty much perfect for my needs, and cheap too :) Another question just before i commit. I've heard the noise factor is a great improvement from the stock hsf on the x1900 xtx but with the x1950 xtx i believe the stock hsf to be a lot quiter going only by reviews as i've never owned an x1900 xtx personally. So assuming then that there wouldn't be much temperature difference with stock/Accelero on my card is ther any significant temp improvement with the accelero in comparison with the stock x1950 xtx hsf? Thanks again, Max.

My temps were running mid 80s at load before I got the Accelero X2 for my X1900XT. I run the Accelero at 100% fan speed and can't hear it and my max temp at load is now 72c, but that's only in Oblivion, most other games are in th 55-65c range.

I have an Accelero for my 6800GT, and wow it is amazing. I know, different card, but same heatsink. I went from running at 65C idle and 93C load to 51C idle and 72C load, and it's a LOT quieter to boot over my old stock hsf.

More back to the topic though, the stock x1950XTX heatsink, if I'm not mistaken, expels its hot air out the back of the case. The Accelero does NOT do this. Instead, heat is expelled to the innards of your case. Your ambient temperatures will probably rise because of this.
