We got new PC's at work recently Dell GX270 with 2.8E P4 and a 1gig of 3200. I figured it would make an OK gaming machine so I threw in a GeForce4 Ti4400 and started playing CS on it at work. Well the 4400 wasn't cutting it and 1280x1024, so I upgraded at home and through the cascade affect, I had a FX5900XT available to swap out. Well the 5900 needs power and the damn Dell only had 4 outlets off of the PSU. Two went to the CDRW and the DVD drives and one went to the hard drive. The one that is left is only about 2 inches long and wouldn't reach to the card. So then I got an extender (the next day) and plugged in the card. I started playing (on my lunch hour of course) and after about 10-15 minutes it rebooted. I checked in Eventvwr and here is what it said

The compuer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was:
0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0xbd616bc0, 0x00000000, 0x00080107).
Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in C:\WINNT \Minidump\Mini041505-01.dmp.

I am thinking it may have something to do with power. The damn Dell only has a 250watt PSU installed in it. And if I remember correctly, they have a proprietary pinout on their PSU connections. The 5900 worked fine in my Athlon XP 2500 KT400A system with a 350 no name PSU. Any thought on anything else I could try?

Your best bet would be get rid of the Dell ;) Last time I checked they make all the crap in their PC's and it doesnt like other things.

Probably a PSU issue. Dell makes a decent, cheap computer, but they do shave costs wherever they can.

Yeah I am guessing it is a PSU issue. And like I mentioned I think Dell's PSU's are pinned out differently so I can't put a new PSU in. Does anyone make a converter cable or know what cables are swapped around?
I can't complain too much since it is a work computer. Just upgraded me from a Micron P3 450 256mb ram 8gig drive in January  .

He said it was his work computer. He can't get rid of a computer that really isn't even his.

So the lesson here is:

Don't buy Dell.

I know it's work computer and that's too bad. I have an HP P4 3.0Ghz w/ 512MB 2700 at work, I know it's not much better but I can play Far Cry pretty well at 1280x1024.

HP's have a nasty habit of blowing their power mosfets off the mainboard, I've seen 2 this month do that.

Remove one from the cd-rw and see if it'll work, or the dvd player, depending on which you use more. I can't imagine you burn too many cd's at work.
