Hi

With the black friday on I want to know if I'm still good for playing the games on 1080p. In the moment I got a Phenom II 940BE @ 3.6ghz with 4 go rams and planing to upgrade for a 2500k/3570k. Need 50 posts to post in the buy/sell forum, so discuss :)
 
I'm rocking similar setup, x6 1055t OC'ed to 3.5ghz, 460gtx at stock clocks, I can play all the latest games with no problem. Some of the very latest may need some of the graphics settings checked down a couple notches, but I'm fine with that considering how long this gear has lasted.
Upgrade your RAM.
I would go for the 3570k, Microcenter has it for $170.
 
A memory upgrade would be cheap. An SSD would be a cheap very noticeable upgrade. Your 940 at that clock speed is still good enough for most games. If anything you might buy another 460 to SLI with your current to keep your system valid for a longer time period.
 
You can sit out another year before you really start to feel the pain at 1080p. You already probably have to turn off a few effects here and there.
 
only you can determine if the gtx460 still gets the job done. I see no point in upgrading the cpu/mobo/ram if you are going to stick with the gtx460 though. I would probably get 4 more gb of ram and a gtx660 and stick with everything else.
 
I love my GTX 460. I've tried to upgrade a few times but end up canceling the orders every time. I just can't let go or justify upgrading when it handles everything I play very well.

well you must not be trying to play a lot of newer games on close to max settings at 1920x1080. my card is basically dead even with a gtx460 and there are plenty of games where it simply cant get the job done. if you are not picky about framerate or settings then yeah a gtx460 will get the job done for the most part.
 
Just to keep you update, I bought a 2500k. So now I'm thinking to SLI the 460GTX with another. This can be worth the try? Also, what's the power supplie requierement for this?

Already got an SSD ^^
 
Had a GTX460 786mb and it WASN"T cutting it in BF3 at 1600x1200 (24" old school LCD). I could play at Medium with no MSAA. Anything more and it would start "chopping". I found a Gigabyte 7870OC (1.1GHz) at Microcenter for $200 (after taxes and applied rebate) and couldn't be happier. Playing BF3 at everything set to Ultra and 2xMSAA... That's on 3570k @4.2GHz. But yes, the 460 lasted me a LONG time and probably the best value I ever got out of a piece of hardware.
 
Yeah the 460GTX was a best bang for the buck same as the 6600GT and 8800GT. I read if you SLI the 460GTX you'll get the performance between 570GTX and 580GTX who's still decent for only 1080p. Thats why I think to do this.

I don't usually max out settings. I'm not the kind of person to get caught up in the visuals of things or having 16x AA instead of 4x AA. I just want a good 45-60+ fps experience and I could achieve that with my gtx 460. On new games I can get pretty close to all high settings with light AA, but usually tend to go medium settings with medium-ish AA (4x-8x). The GTX 460 was a beast of a card at the time. I had mine running (actually still do in my wife's computer) at gtx 560 clocks and haven't had a single problem with it. Temps never go over 75c either.

With that said I just got a gtx 660 2gb and I probably wont change any settings in game between my gtx 460 unless I was already hitting that happy point of 60fps and want to toss in a few more things and keep it at 60fps.
