Hi,

I'm looking to get a 3d monitor.

What I would like to be able to do is play old games @ 800x600 @ 120hz using VGA (if that's possible)
1080p @ 60hz over vga is fine.

other thing is that I read about people with ATI cards having loads of problems using any resolutions other then the native one with high hertz like 100 and 120. I don't know if it was monitor related or gpu related though...

so far, im considering the alienware, the benq and the asus.

All of the 120hz LCD's I know of only do 100/120hz over Dual Link DVI.

You can change the resolution, but it will need to be over Dual-Link-DVI. Not sure of any reason to use VGA, its just lower quality.

Also, you will need an Nvidia card to do 3D, and its best to use Windows 7.
