I have to replace my dad's HD on his old HP (p3) Im pretty damn sure its IDE, but since its so old and all, is there a diffrence between IDE or IDE Ultra ATA? I never knew there are varients on IDE HDs...or are they the exact same? Thanks for the info.
 
You should be OK replacing it with a standard drive. Just avoid S-ATA.

 
Answered a while back - look here for the history lesson. Short answer is, yes Ultra ATA/UDMA/IDE all refer to the same interface, and generally drives and hosts are forward and backward compatible, although that older PIII system may be limited by the 137GB barrier. There is already plenty of good guides for gettign around that limitation if you look around here and on Google, or you can simply choose not to deal with it by getting a drive of 120GB or less :p
