Quest for the Perfect Case

Or should read the perfect case for me.

So, I want a case that is large enough to house a normal ATX motherboard, aftermarket CPU cooler, normal power supply, and one or two hard drives (Raptor and a large drive). And I want to cram a 8800Ultra with Accelero (the three fan model) cooler on it.

I have a fairly large case right now, but I hard to cram the 8800Ultra in it.

I never want to watercool, but I want to have great air cooling capabilities. On top of that I want it to be as quiet as possible, not silent.

Been looking at the Cosmos S and Lian Li cases (Armor and 1100 or 1000), but was thinking they were quite large.

Budget, try to keep it under $500.
 
These would be my recommendations.

Silverstone TJ07

Lian Li V1000 and up will fit it, but it is a BTX form factor... Some people do not like that.

The best way to find the case right for you is to search Newegg or other sites and find a case you like, then ask questions about it.
 
Lian Li v 1110? Quiet, good cooling, lots of room? If you don't mind inverted ATX, pick up a 1100 instead of the 1110 :) They're both packed full of silencing stuff, and have great cooling.
 
Lian-Li PC-7B Plus II for me. 120mm fans front and back. Good width to the case and oh so stylish.

The CM Cosmos 1000 is a very nice case if you like the looks. I just received mine from newegg yesterday and will be putting my new build in it this weekend. Thick brushed aluminum, quick release side panels, tool-less one-button press installation of 5.25'' drives, avionics style individual pullout bays for up to six HD's, external firewire/eSATA, 4 stock case fans with room for a 5th above the HD's, cable management system, heavy reversible front door, sound dampening on the side panels, NO LED's, great airflow - this thing's got everything I was looking for. I doubt I'll buy another case for 5-10 years.

It is ginormous though. Check out the measurements before you order. Really, it's huge.
 
I have been looking for the perfect case recently, that has the best balance between size, compatibility, cooling, quality, performance, ease of use, and looks (NOT price, because I am a firm believer of 'you get what you pay for') I love my current TJ07, however, I bought this case a little of a year ago, and I expect it to last me for another 1-2 years. However, If I were to buy a case at this moment, it would have to be the Lian Li V1010 (I have not taken LC friendly into account).

The V1010 is just a perfect case, IMO of course:
Cooling is acceptable
Looks great!
Cable-management ready
Dust Filters all over the place (always a plus)
With the right fans, it could be as silent as a bug.
Quality (It is a Lian Li)
Ease of Use
Mid-tower and accepts E-ATX and long VGA cards.
etc, etc, etc,

I love the new Lian Li Full Tower line-up as well, but god, they are just a tad too big, like overly huge.
 
Great suggestions! I am looking at all those cases now.

I wrote the earlier post from work and was hurried.

My budget with the case is generous, but if I am going to spend that kind of coin, it should be perfect (for me).

Large enough for my concerns. Maybe two hard drives, but full sized board, full sized power supply and capability to house a 8800Ultra lengthwise.

On top of that air flow and designed around being quiet. The Lian-Li PC-7B Plus II looks promising as it is not overly huge, but will it fit a 8800Ultra?

Edit: Looks the the PC-7B does not have any extras for making the case quieter, like for the hard drive grommets and such.

If I had to choose between size and less noise, I would definately choose less noise. But less noise should not compromise air flow. There must be a balance!
 
On a different note what are your thoughts on the Mountain Mods cases?

Quite large but different dimensions of large, air flow seems to be good with a decent number of fans, however being less noise seems to be an issue.

On one hand it does have a lot of fans (which can be turned down an have a good airflow) and no method to quiet the hard drives. On the other hand it is very solid and that does provide some sound dampening.

If you like the PC-7, check out the new PC-8. Just like the PC-7, only it also has rubber hard drive silencers just like you wanted. Another option is the A05 which is a bit smaller and a different cooling scheme than you may be used to, but it is a full-size case. There's a huge thread in this forum showing people's setups with it, and has been proven to fit any size graphics card. It also has rubber hard drive silencers for up to three drives.
