what is the point called where earth and moon share the same gravity, i got an idea for a case and some hardware. anyone?
 
What do you mean by share the same gravity? Earth has gravity and moon has gravity. They interact with each other and with the sun.
 
apparently there is a point where they share the same gravity, is there not?
 
See I don't understand what you mean by 'share the same gravity'. What does that mean? I have studied kinetics and gravity and planetary motion and all that but I have no idea what you are talking about.

Like, is there not a point in space where the earth and moon share the same gravity? like... if you go out where there gravity's collidge if you will and in that one space are the same?

Does that make any sence?
 
are you saying where the gravivational pull fo the earth is equal to the gravitational pull of the moon?

What's your case idea? :)
 
umm, the earth and the moon never share the same quantity of gravitational force, it's not mathematically possible for them to. Think about it, if 2 objects had the same gravitational force, they would just offset eachother and go flying in different directions.
 
Are you talking about something like an Event Horizon? The point on a black hole where light can no longer escape?

That's the only thing I can think of that's interesting about gravity. :)

"wuts the point called between the earth and the moon where the force of gravity is the same from both sides?"

I had not idea what it was, still don't, but got an idea none the less! someone has to know this, hehe. I googled a ton, but can't get the right wording I guess.
 
Sorry, but there is no way in hell that the earth's gravitational pull will EVER be equal to the moon's gravitational pull. Gravity is a property of matter. More matter = more gravity. As you have probably noticed, the earth is much much much bigger than the moon. Therefore the earth has a much greater gravitational pull than the moon. Unless you could dynamically resize the earth or the moon then you cannot reach a point where the gravitational pull of both is equal. Quit trying to violate the laws of physics(and common sense).

Well now that is an entirely different question altogether. The force of gravity follows the inverse square law. Double the distance and the force is quartered. This page seems to describe what you are talking about.

edit: The force of gravity of the moon and the earth will never be equal. That is the answer to the first question you asked. However, for the second question you asked, yes, there is a point between the earth and the moon where you reach equilibrium. That is, the gravitational force pulling you to the moon and the gravitational force pulling you to the earth are equal. This is NOT the same as just saying the gravitational force of the earth and the moon are equal.

I would agree with him.. but would the term your looking for be static equilibrium?
 
Yeah I'm thinking equilibrium is the keyword here. If that is not what he is looking for then I have no idea.

I think the best word would be equilibrium.. (though i would perfer static equilibrium, because it's a bit more specific)
 
Oh God i hated Lagrange multipliers in Multivariant calculus.... It makes since though the LaGrange multipliers are used to find maximums and minimums in R-3 (3-d). So i guess it's finding a minimum in the effect of the gravity field of the earth and moon.

ANyway.. dude.. what is your case idea.. this thread will have no reason to be here if we don't discuss what your case and hardware idea is..
 
the theory of gravity is that all matter is inherently attracted to eachother, and that the greater the mass the greater the attraction. I have low mass compared to the earth so i get pulled down to it.

Though if i put my hand over a pen, gravity from the earth pulls the pen down as gravity from my hand attempts to pull the pen up. the closer you are to the mass producing gravity the greater the pull (you weigh less at the equtor, than at either of the poles b/c the earth is an oblate sphearoid... it buldges at the middle due to sentrifical force)

the moon pulls on the earth, and it pulls on the sun, the other planets and all the stars to a varying degrie, as they pull on the moon (the elyptical orbit of the outer planets can be contributed to gravittional forces from outside out solarsystem.

the moon pulls on the earth and the earth pulls on the moon (the effects of the moon making things lighter on earth is tides, the moon pulls on the earth and has enouph power to pull up watter.

any point where the gravity from the moon and the earth are equal would have to be much closer to the moon, and would have to stay in orbit with the moon orbit would have to be matained.

an orbit is like falling and missing the ground, the object is pulled down but has enouph force to either side that it never reachs down but instead falls to the side, continuously.

Ill ckeck with some people i know to see if i can find the techincl name for the point, but im not sure there is one... and as a theory gravity has only proven itself on the planet or close to it, on a grander scale if falls short, and relitivity theory has taken over as the theory for the movment of "heavonly bodies" but it too falls short when matter and motion is examend at the sub-atomic level, where there is hopes of a "unified theory" that can aply to both atoms and solarsystems

(i realy have to stop DLing books on tape by Stephen Hawking, especialy when he "reads" them)
