Quasi-surround sound trouble

I have an Audigy 2 ZS, and I'm running a set of Logitech Z-2300's up front. I also decided to use my Z-340's in back (the 2300's replaced these). So I essentially have a 4.2 setup. Anyway, I was wondering if there's a way I can play surround sound from DVD's on this setup. I know it will work fine in games, but I can't seem to get any movies to work with it. Even if Media Player Classic says it's 6-channel audio, I only get sound from the front speakers. I've tried changing my settings to 5.1 sound, thinking that would help, but no luck. So, any ideas?

I'm running two 2.1 sets, one plugged into the front audio out port (the Z 2300's), and the other plugged into the rear audio out port (the Z 340's). They both just use standard 1/8" minijacks, and I assume the subs are just fed a mixture of the left and right signals through a crossover, so I don't have a dedicated minijack for the sub channel (and I have no front center channel that would typically share the sub's minijack). Admittedly a tad ghetto, but I figure, hey, I have the speakers sitting around anyway, so why not use them?

I noticed in the THX console, the speakers all sound fine, and I get the rear channels playing just as they should when I try the speaker test. However, when I try to play movies, it plays the front and rear signals over the front speakers, and the rear speakers get no signal at all.

Sound in movies is encoded to dolby- it seems this sound is not decoded properly, probably due to messed up settings.
Open up audio settings in the power dvd or whatever you use and select SPDIF there. Not 5.1 or stereo but SPDIF. Then open up decoding tab in audigy settings and select ac3 decoding. I do not have Audigy any more but I think that was how it was called. It is in Audio Console --> Decoding in my X-Fi now, should be similar with Audigy.
Good Luck

Thanks for the help, I downloaded VLC media player, and it turns out the sound works fine in that. I'm going to be reformatting in a few days, and I'm hoping that will clear up my issues.
