Quantum Break

Well a single 980 Ti running at 1450 still dips into the mid to low 30s so I would say no unless you get perfect scaling.

I tried the 30 fps lock in the game and it is not bad at all and I normally cant tolerate 30 fps. A consistent 30 fps is way better feeling in this game than having the framerate fluctuating so much. Even just panning around with the 30 fps lock is way less jittery than doing that in the 40s or 50s even.

I agree, an animation calculated for 30FPS is way better than an animation calculated from max framerate if the framerate is jittery.
an animation divided by 30 frame and executed in half a second is smoother than an animation that must cut frames to achieve the end of the movement in a period of time.

Since SLI is not supported I need to take in consideration your comment, a single GTX980 Ti still dips into the mid to low 30.
So ok, my GTX980 Ti SLI can't max it out this game at 1080P, not at 60FPS at least.
Nice to know that there is a cap at 30FPS that is well calcualted to make the animation smooth at that framerate.

This game is my next buy, remedy is one of the software house that I loved more.

OK after playing it a little bit I change what I said about 30 fps being acceptable. I would rather just turn down settings and get 60 fps. The graphics really are not as nice as they should be for the performance on ultra settings and going to medium does not look much worse.

Turning off AA though will cause some odd issues. Here you can see the bushes look fine with AA on but with it off it its like the leaves just disappear and the branches will flicker a little even if just standing still with no camera movement at all.

It works so well on my AMD setup that I think that it's Nvidia's drivers that are holding back their cards. Hopefully when Pascal launches on May 27th, Nvidia will have some nice updated drivers for you'll.

Surprisingly it plays fine on my 750 ti even though min requirements call for 760. I dont think it ever dropped below 30 using the 30 fps "lock" and that was at 1080 and even without every setting on lowest.

So, I'll (hopefully) have a 1080 this weekend and this is one of those games that really interested me. What's the status of it now? Gears and KI run like butter now. Did the patches (and Windows Update) ever truly fix Quantum Break?

I'll have to eventually get back into playing it. I quit before the 1.7 update due to the game looking horrible. Maybe Remedy will eventually get a clue about how to make the game work right with enthusiast level hardware? Probably never though.

Seems much better to me now in terms of performance. I beat the game twice before the big patches so I never had many issues to begin with, but clearly performance is better now. I only have a 1080p monitor though, I see you run 4k?

Here are a few thoughts after playing Act 1 last night which was my first real comparison of pre and post patch performance:

- Gsync works now, great for me

- Apples to apples of my settings pre and post patch (everything set to high), it feels much smoother. I can't monitor my FPS in this game though, but it definitely feels smoother

- Upscaling can be disabled but if I had to guess what performance you'd get at 4k with a 1080 card, I think you'd want to leave upscaling on and could get acceptable frames at Medium or High settings (or a mix of them). Maybe you could get Ultra on some and leave Volumetric lighting and Shadows a bit lower as those seem to be the real killers.

- I still would get stutters during some cut scenes. This happened before the patch and now after as well, seems random too as I can run the same cut scene twice and one time it may show a stutter while the second time it will run fine. Also some stutters occasionally when I see the little loading or quick save icon (not sure what it is). I have the game on an SSD so a bit surprising.

All in all I think there have been noticeable improvements. Story driven game, after beating it twice there is little incentive to play again so soon but I think it has a wonderful story and characters. I personally loved it but realize it can be a tough game to recommend for $60 even if technical issues were not a concern.

I have the *option* for 4K, but that's been a borderline pipe dream so far. I can only get 60fps on 3-4 games in 4K mode. Although the 1080 cards *might* change that.
Anyway, with this game I'd be shooting for 1080p/60. That's my gold standard.

That game looks decent (going by the above video) but a bit blurry. If that is how a 980ti and 1080 run the game I can't imagine my 970 will hold up well at all. Any particular settings that are massive killers? Lighting and shadows? How many frame rates can you gain by turning those down?

The game is not that impressive looking if you scrutinize it. There are horrible flickering jaggy shadows and many low res textures. There is also a weird blurry grainy look even with film grain off. The animations can look janky too.

Upscaling being off like in the video has huge framerate hit but having it on makes the game look even blurrier. And I think the other big performance hit is from the volumetric lighting.

Quantum Break Title Update 1.6.2016 - Remedy Community Forums

Windows 10 Title Update 3

  • Support for disabling V-sync which will allow users to take advantage of G-Sync or FreeSync
  • Fixed an issue with game controllers not working correctly on some configurations
  • General fixes
  • In response to requests from fans, we have removed SSE4.2, SSE4.1, SSSE3 limitation, which will enable “Quantum Break” on Windows 10 to run on unsupported, below minimum spec hardware. However, Quantum Break is not designed to run on older or unsupported hardware, and we strongly encourage you ensure your PC meets the necessary system requirements before purchasing or playing “Quantum Break” on Windows 10

I am not seeing any new patch...

EDIT: There is an option to disable vsync now so I guess it did get patched but it never indicated it was being updated and the notes are still exactly the same on the store page only mentioning the previous patch.

Cool looks like I might actually get this then - was totally against it due to MS Store nonsense.

OH WAIT....will they still make it launch via Windows Store (I don't own any Windows Store games, not exactly sure how it works) and just have steam achievements but not actual Steam integration?

Must have sold poorly on the Windows store..heh. Glad to see it coming to Steam and selling at a reasonable price. I'll wait for the next Steam sale or cdkeys.

I think it will be Steam alone...I think you're confusing it with Uplay games which launch their interface with certain Steam games

so I still need Windows 10 to play this?...that sucks but DX12 is the future right?...game sounds average at best so not sure I'm going to get it...another overly hyped game which doesn't sound like it lived up to it

Wait... So they include a Blu-ray with a Making of documentary, but they still put the game on DVD? FFS...

I think I remember reading that the Windows Store version of Rise of the Tomb Raider only constituted between 1% and 3% of total sales on the PC. There is an article I posted somewhere that states Microsoft will be releasing their published games on Steam, and this seems to be the first.
I may actually buy it now. I have the MS appstore completely disabled
Same, although I don't have the store disabled. Will still need it for my Forza Horizon 3 preorder on XBONE.

every system that has an optical drive is dvd compatible but not every one is Blu-ray compatible. I do agree though, for the price of a Blu-ray disc they should include both. I cannot remember the last game that had to install from 5 discs...

The Windows Store thing never bothered me (Gears and KI work fine) but I'm more concerned with the horrible performance reports.
I'm hoping they managed to add some polish and squeeze some FPS so that a 1080 can manage 60fps.

If they try any bullshit with making it UWP-wrappered or require the windows store to launch, it'll get completely eviscerated by the negative reviews.

I think it will be stand alone steam, no UWP tie-in for the reason DPI states. it would completely defeat the purpose of having a steam version and they would have refunds out the wazoo!

Quantum Break coming to Steam and Retail on 9/14

Great, looks like MS is getting it through its thick head that even exclusives won't blackmail users into getting trapped in its shitty walled app store. Of course, as other have pointed out, it will be a massive fail if they still wrap it in UWP. Look forward to grabbing it when it hits $10.

most of the technical issues the game had on release were related to the Windows Store right (v-sync, frame rates etc)?...so the Steam version should be the definitive one...this sounds similar to that Ryse: Son of Rome game which was a graphics showcase but empty as far as gameplay

Vsync was a technical limitation in UWA that's been fixed and in Quantum Break. Frame rates, that's really all about the game itself. It's improved but it's still pretty resource intensive. But whatever optimizations there would apply to both the UWA and Win32 versions more than likely.

tried it and it seemed like one long QTE(press x press a press b, BS!). played less the an hour and turfed it.

I really enjoyed it, it reminded me of the natural evolution of side-scrolling beat-em-up games like double-dragon or streets of rage. QTE's are a pain in the ass, but the game integrated them so deeply that they don't feel disconnected, I.E the same button always does shield, the other always does sword, its not like others where the buttons are random and don't make sense.

On the topic of Quantum Broken: Will it FINALLY support SLI!?

Those who purchased Quantum Break through the Windows 10 store are “unlikely” to see another patch for the game, according to Remedy’s Head of Communications Thomas Puha...Puha was replying on twitter to players still unhappy with the game’s performance, even after a recent July patch, stating: “Sorry to hear you are having problems. Its unlikely we release another Win10 patch”.

It was announced yesterday that Quantum Break would be getting a Windows 7-compatible, DirectX 11 Steam release in mid-September. That move now appears to mark an end to support for the Windows 10, DirectX 12 version.

Asked whether those who purchased the game through the Windows store (at, it should be remembered, a higher cost than the upcoming $40 Steam version) would be in line for any kind of discount or compensatory Steam key, Puha replied “we dont make those business decisions”.

so it will be released for Windows 7 and DX11...that's good...I wasn't sure if the Steam version was going to be a DX12 exclusive...I might pick this up down the road during a Steam sale...game doesn't seem like something I would love...seems more like an interactive movie

Wow. Sucks for the Windows Store folks if they don't get a Steam key for their troubles. Hopefully they do.

It will definitely be interesting to see how the performance is on the Steam version, and if it is indeed better then it will be a very bad look for MS in general (Windows store, DX12, UWP). Good thing for PC gaming no matter what though, QB is a great game marred by the performance problems, general Windows store and Win10 disdain, and the fact that at full price many consider these types of games a poor value.

I found it fantastic for what it was, and was able to look past the technical issues. I'd recommend it to anyone who is either a Remedy fan or wants a cool sci fi story with interesting gameplay.

I'm definitely interested in seeing benchmarks. I paid full price for the Windows Store version, played it and enjoyed it, but even with a GTX 1080 it can't be run at full detail without at high frame rates (I'm on a 1080 that gets up to 2050MHz).

I'd like to eventually play this game again because it was good, if the Steam version proves to run better, I'll wait for it to be heavily discounted and buy it again.

the Steam version is also cheaper then the original price at the Windows Store which is just another black eye for W10 and the Store

Quantum Break Steam release delayed

The release of the Steam version was planned for September 14th but it’s been pushed back to Sep 29th as they need “additional time required for mastering and manufacturing the Quantum Break – Timeless Collector’s Edition for retail”...the CE version will be releasing at the same time

By the way... The Steam version is going to be DX11 only.
