Quality UPS Brands?

I'm faced with the following decision for buying a UPS:

A 650VA UPS by "Up-Max" for $36.99 shipped.
A 575VA UPS by "PowerCom" for $39.99 shipped.
A 425VA UPS by "CyberPower" for $40.94 shipped.

Anyone have any experience with these manufacturers? Any recommendations? Thanks.
 
I was just thinking about quality and none of those brands came to mind... but if I had to choose one I'd go with CyberPower.

If I was buying an UPS for myself I'd probably go with APC first or Tripp Lite, and I like some of the Belkin models also. Changing the batteries on most APC models isn't torture like it is on some of the others.
 
those three I have never used..been using APC for over 10 years. and never had a problem.

I agree here. APC and TrippLite are very reliable. Been running APC for years without problems. And where I live, there are constant power fluxuations.
 
I use APC.. No problems.. what can i say it works! like its supposed too :D
 
Y'know I was about to ask a similar question. But now here's my question on the thread (sorry if it's hijacking, i just happened to notice the different specs myself)

How high of a VA or watts rating should a person look for if they're going to hook up just their computer? Cause that's what I plan on doing. Also, just so I have this correct, these UPS units also protect against brownouts, right? Cause I definitely need something for that.

Current specs:
Athlon64 at 2GHz
Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939 board (no PCI-E)
BFG GeForceFX 5500 OC
1GB Corsair TwinX RAM
Maxtor 200GB
Western Digital 120GB
500W PSU (soon to be upgraded with something that has SLI capabilities)
 
Never heard of Up-Max. Have had problems with CyberPower. I've used PowerComm without problems and I like the UPS-Mon software, so I pick Power-Comm... but don't take any of them if they don't have AVR.

Tripplite ups units that have Avr: OmniSmart Ups, Vs Avr Series Ups, Smartpro Ups, and Smartonline Ups.
APC ups unit that has Avr: Back-ups RS series and higher end models
Belkin ups that has Avr: Regulator Pro 1000va
 
No one mentioned OPTI. I've been using one for about 6 months now with no problems.
 
I have a Cybrpower which works absolutely perfect, has saved several devices. Ive also got an APC which fried my motherboard, but because of the reputation ill have to say im sure I probably just got a bad unit. Cybrpower definately is of good quality and good pricing imho.
 
While any UPS is usually better than not using one, I'd recommend spending the extra to get a APC or Tripp-Lite. Low end models lack voltage regulation and quality construction that you find in better brands/models.

I use all APC's, and have yet to have an issue, they cost more initially but pay off in the long run with quality and the ease/cheapness of getting new battery packs to revitalize them.
 
I would recommend adding the extra few dollars and going for APC. I never had any issues with them and they certainly do the job.
 
I have Apc units and one Belkin ups unit around the house, I did however at a time had one cyberpower ups that did fry my fathers computer.

I have had only one problem with a Apc ups, the one being a 350 CS Ups unit, had one of a bad batch that had battery recharge problems. The one belkin I own is the Small Enterprise Ups 1000va, it offers voltage regulation and is somewhat of good quality.

For being stable, I will continue to use Belkin and Apc.
 
APC is easily the best you can buy. Nuff said :p

I've been using APC products for 10 years or so. I have:

BackUPS 500 USB on my Mac & printers (value around $2,700)
1500VA UPS on my AMD gaming rig (value around $2,200)
APC SurgeArrest power strips (2) protecting A/V equipment and a $2000. LCD HDTV & $100 DVD player.

so yes, I trust them very very much!
 
I just purchased 2 425VA UPS by "CyberPower" that you mentioned. They are built kind of cheaply, not the quality I was expecting, but its okay. To remove the battery just remove a couple screws on the bottom, lift up and replace, not too bad. I have fully charged one and tested it and I don't think its working right. I unplug the unit (or flip the breaker) and my computer instantly restarts, everything stays powered but the computer itself restarts. The beeping drives me CRAZY. I'm only pulling 170 watts. I'm going to call them and see what's up with it. With the list you provided, I would go ahead and get the cyberpower, I have not heard of the other brands and would be a little hesitant with those.
