Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, low-profile (under 74mm), i7 HSF? It would also be a bonus if the fan is detachable and can be reversed (PSU exhaust in an SFF).
 
Under 74mm with the fan? You might want to just stick with the stock HSF, unless you are shooting for quiet or plan on OCing. The AXP-140 is nice but the HS itself is 70mm tall, without fan. There are many other coolers but none that I have used first hand. The Nexus LOW-7000 is only 70.3mm, the Scythe SHURIKEN is under 65mm, the Cooljag Falcon 2 looks just like the Nexus but a good deal cheaper. I have heard some good things about the CM GeminII, but I think with the fan it will be over your 74mm.

Never saw that before, pretty cool. I can imagine it's pretty tough to find a small heatsink capable of keeping the I7's cool as well. These things run so damn hot.
 
Here's a little input on the Shuriken. I just installed the Shuriken Rev B in my HTPC. I would highly suggest that you remove the motherboard to install this cooler if choosing it for your build. The Intel push pins are a PITA due to the limited room under the cooling fins. This will save you from undue frustration and the use of foul language!

Been monitoring temps with Real Temp and these are the results. Idle high 40's to low 50's. When running Intel Test Burn the temps are at high 60's to low 70's. This is after reinstalling the cooler and swapping out the fan for a Scythe Kaze-Jyu 100x25mm 1000rps fan. Granted these readings are in a HTPC. Artic cool MX-2 was used as well.

Might try getting a faster fans to bring domw the temps. If that don't work I might just spend the exra money on a Thermalright SI-128SE. Hopes this helps.
