Quality Gaming Headsets?

Hey fellas. I've been doing some research on some high end gaming headsets and want to buy a pair. My budget is around $100 if they're THAT GOOD and are hands down the best and worth it. I've seen those $450 ones from like Sony and stuff, but that's way to much.

I went to Logitech's website for some quality ones and saw the top 2 headsets. Newegg doesn't sale Logitech headsets so I don't know how good these are, but I've always liked Logitech and trust them with most of their equipment.

2nd Place I looked was Platronic's website. They have a shitload of different types. And honestly this was the first time I've heard of USB connective headsets. Now I really don't know the up and down sides to these things. The DSP-500's sounded/looked sweet because it's their highest end, and the Egg sales em for $75 which isn't bad at all (If it's worth it).

I really wanted a Mic on them for gaming like UT2004, or any other VoIP program like Roger Wilco. I wanted some of your guy's opinions about which you have, and how good they are, or what you'd primarily recommend? Or maybe going with a mic on a headset isn't good. I'm not sure, thats why I ask. I've read reviews and most people like them, but I wanted your reviews. They seem to hit harder... ya know?

Thanks fellas,

PS: These Sennheiser look BAD ASS, any suggestions/opinions on these? (PC-155 USB)

I personally use the Plantronics .audio 90s and find them to be more than enough for gaming. If you have a good soundcard, the DSP-500s are useless. The reason as to why the DSPs are more expensive is because they have a built-in soundcard generating their own digital signal. The 90's are analog but when coupled with a good soundcard are amazing. I would also recommend the PC series from Sennheiser. I have not tried them personally, but I have heard good things. So either go with the .90s or one of the headsets in the PC series.

In terms of music, both of these sets will be blown away with true headphones. I use my .audio 90s for the mic and then use my ATH-900s for headphones while listening to music. I am using them both simultaneously more and more however, with the 90s for the mic. Anyhow, if you're interested in just a straight headset, go with the ones I already mentioned.

Sennheiser HD-280 Pro, find one with the mike added, or get senn to add it... if you can fit it in the price range.

Sennheiser pc150's are pretty much the best you can buy for a made for gaming solution. I believe the 155's just have a built in sound card? Anyway, I have the 150's and highly recommend them. You can hear where everyone is coming from and the mic is very clear.

I use to have a Plantronics headphones, I think they were the 60s. Damn dog chewed them up! I really liked them as they sounded great and had the mic. I am thinking about getting the 90's to replace them.

The 90's sound pretty good for the money, the problem is they are built like shit, nothing like playing game and the fuckers just fall apart for no reason.

I'm running a set of Sennheiser HD497's. They're my first set of headphones, and bought them after reading through scads of opinions on the web. While the price ($50 US) and sound quality are quite good for both music and games, their looks and somewhat flimsy feel take some getting used to. Looks, ultimately, are subjective, and I have rather subdued tastes, and while they feel flimsy, they've showed no signs of poor build quality. All-in-all, I have no reservations recommending them.

I use my HD497s and a Labtec desktop mic... I like it, a lot. Headphones are great, and the mic's clear...

Really I don't think you can go wrong with either the Plans or the Senns... I've heard the DSP-500 and 90's and they both sound very nice, and the mic's are clear, and I've never heard a bad set of Sennheisers...

i have the logitech premium usb headset, things freaking rocks on any gaming or voip proggy like roger wilco, battlecom etc... i was really surprised how good it sounded because it was conncected via USB, but the thing is very comfortable, stylish and sounds awsome i give it 2 thumbs up :)

Well I broke down and bought a cheap Labtec Mic from wally world and a Pair of Koss KTXPRO1 headphones. I am listening to them now and I am amazed at how good they sound. I have heard they have the same drivers as the Portapro's and are about half the price, I got mine from Amazon.com for less than $20 shipped. The only problem I see for some people is that the cord is fairly short, but I already use an extension cord so it isn't a problem for me. They even have a Volume control inline.
I listened to the THX Ultimate Sub Test with them and was amazed at the bass these things put out and the mids and highs are great also, I am no Audiophile but I think these are totally awsome!
